A Nearby Farm, Part 2

Post by BarbYoung »

A couple of years later, after death of 3 of the horses on that farm and the removal of another two, the folks at the same farm I drive by frequently, continued to neglect and starve their two remaining horses. They were ok in the summers when there was pasture grass, but then they stopped irrigating the pasture, and it all dried up and died with nothing left but dry weeds.

As you can imagine, these horses were the topic of the neighborhood, because we all had to drive by them so much.

One of my neighbors and I with enough room for these poor horses, came up with the idea of asking to “borrow” the horses to graze down our extra pasture grass. And so these 2 nice guys have been with us for 2 years now. The spend summers on my extra pasture and winters grazing down the neighbors’ extra pasture and then she feeds them hay until spring. They look much better, don’t you think?

This is my winter view of the “boys” when they are at the neighbors'.

Our other neighbor was so pleased that we took these poor horses on that she bakes us a loaf of bread every now and then to say thank you. For me just looking at how they are now is thanks enough. They just make me smile. :D
