Post by starlitephotography »

i am having trouble with indoor lighting. when i photograph shows inside and the lighting is bad how do you set the flash/camera for it? what if a horse gets spooked by the flash? do you keep shooting and say the heck with it? i dont want anyone to get hurt because of my camera flash. help please?

There's a ton of information on this in the EPNet Forums, but the short answer is that it is very difficult to shoot in many indoor arenas. Many photographers (including Pros) refuse to shoot in those conditions due to those challenges. Gear ($$$), technique, and sometimes lighting is essential. Depending on what specific discipline you are shooting, flash is either just fine, or a huge no-no.

...and yes, some horses will spook, and possibly hurt themselves, the rider, or others (including spectators). The farms/shows have liability releases for this, but those don't protect you if someone decides to sue you as the cause.
what if a horse gets spooked by the flash? do you keep shooting and say the heck with it?
This is a sure way to a) never be invited back and b) gamble your livelihood on no-one getting hurt and suing you...

Bonnie,
if you are going to be shooting shows you will need liability insurance to cover yourself *in case* something does go wrong.

Do a search for "indoor photos"
Here are some threads to start you off:

Bonnie, this is the Open forum, open to registered guests. You are a General Member, so can ask these questions in the General Members Forums. You can search past threads, like Carien has linked for you, and you'll get many more responses there than in this Open forum. When you go to the Board Index page, scroll down past the Guest Forums, all the way to the General Members. And be sure to introduce yourself there, if you haven't. I know it's confusing at first, but will start to make sense.

Don't be sorry. That's not what I meant. You'll just get much more help in the General Members Forums.
