How To Make Your Avatar

The little pic below your username is called an avatar. Its width can be no greater than 120 pixels, the height no greater than 120 pixels, and the file size no more than 10 KB. Here is the link to where you can upload it in your profile: ucp.php?i=profile&mode=avatar

In Photoshop, open your image.

First you need to resize your image. Because avatars are so tiny you might want to crop it fairly tightly before you resize.

Go to Image > Image Size
Make sure "Constrain Proportions" is checked
Set the Resolution to 72 pixels/inch
Set your largest dimension to 120 pixels or less
Click OK

Now you are ready to save your resized image. Use File > Save for Web. Do not use File > Save As. The best way to get images with small file size is to use Save for Web. The reason is because Save for Web removes the file info and EXIF info and is able to produce a much smaller file.

Go to File > Save for Web. Make sure you have selected the Optimized tab at the top left. Make sure you have selected JPEG and High in the File Settings boxes at the top right. Look in the lower left corner. What does it say for file size? It must be less than 10k.

If all is well, click Save and name your new file something logical. It doesn't matter what your naming convention is as long as you know what it means and you can locate the correct image to upload.
